Vido N90 FHDRK Android Tablet Review

First of all, the Vido N90 FHDRK is frequently sold under two other brand names, Window and Yuandao, but the model number remains the same. They all refer to the same company. Phonetically, all 3 brand names sound alike. If I understand it correctly, Vido is the name of the company that produces OEM Android tablets. Then Vido decided to sell tablets under their own brand thus Window and Yuandao were born. Vido mainly sells their brand of tablets within China but there are retailers who are shipping them internationally. They do not even include an English manual or documentation with their products. Make sure that the support from the retailer is good before committing to buying a Vido tablet. So with the disadvantages associated with a Vido tablet, why should anyone consider buying one? It is because Vido tablets are among the cheapest China Android tablet PCs that you can buy. The Vido N90 FHDRK is an iPad clone with very similar specs as the Pipo M6 which we gave a maximum 5 stars rating. It is powered by a quad-core Rockchip RK3188 processor and a gorgeous 9.7 inch 2048 x 1536 pixel retina display.  A Vido N90 FHDRK can be bought for about $50 less than a Pipo M6. Please note there are 2 versions of the N90 FHD, with and without the RK suffix. The RK suffix refers to the RK3188 processor that powers the tablet. The model without the RK comes with the Allwinner A31 quad-core processor. Ramos W42 Android Tablet Review

The Ramos W42 Android tablet is a 9.4″ 1280 x 800 pixel tablet running on the quad-core Samsung Exynos 4412. The 9.4″ display size is not very common. I only know of 2 other popular Android tablets with a 9.4″ screen. The first is the Pipo M8pro and the other is the Sony Xperia Tablet S. The Exynos 4412 used in the Ramos W42 is not very common either among China tablets. The quad-core based tablets are usually powered by either the Rockchip RK3188 or the Allwinner A31, both from China manufacturers. The Exynos 4412 is used in a number of Samsung devices including the highly popular Samsung Galaxy SIII Android phone. It also powers the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, Samsung’s 10.1″ 1280 x 800 Android tablet. It is interesting to note that the 16GB WiFi only version of the Samsung Note 10.1 which has a slightly bigger display (10.1″ vs 9.4″) display but with the same resolution, and the very same processor as the W42 retails for about $450. The Samsung Note 10.1 currently ranks first on the list of top rated Tablet PCs on Amazon. The Ramos W42 on the other hand sells for under $250. The Samsung of course has a few additional hardware features such as an extra GB of RAM, GPS receiver and much better quality cameras. However, if you can live without these features, you can save yourself a hefty sum. Buy from DinoDirect Buy Ramos W42 from AliExpress AliExpress has numerous retailers that are offering the Ramos W42 at a great price and some even have free international shipping thrown in. Buy from AliExpress First Impressions The design of the Ramos W42 is as simple and as generic as you can get. However, the built quality is good and that is what is important in my books. The back of the tablet has an aluminum cover and that is a nice touch as it provides a little more rigidity to the tablet housing. Metal enclosures do cause problem with wireless reception but Ramos solved this problem by having a strip of plastic at the top edge of the back cover where the rear camera is mounted. The WiFi antenna is also housed in this area so it does not get blocked by the metal cover. On the...

Hyundai T7s Android Tablet Review

First, let’s get the big questions out of the way. Yes, the Hyundai T7s Android tablet is by the same company that produces the Korean cars. Yes, that makes the Hyundai T7s a Korean instead of a China tablet. No, it is not really out of place here as the Hyundai T7s is generally targeted at the same target audience as the China tablets. The Hyundai T7s is designed and built like the Hyundai cars of old before they came out with their current line of great looking and best selling designs. That means that you get a device with pretty good hardware that is better than the market leaders at a lower price but compromises on looks and design. This is exactly what you get with the T7s. It is powered by a Samsung Exynos 4412 quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 chip instead of a China brand processor like Rockchip or Allwinner. The Exynos 4412 is also the same chip that powers most versions of the best selling Samsung Galaxy S3. It has since been replaced by the Galaxy S4 but the Galaxy S3 is still a very powerful smartphone by today’s standards. The display is a fairly decent 7inch 1280 x 800 IPS screen. It is not a retina display but more than adequate for a 7 inch screen. It also comes with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB ROM. Buy from Merimobiles First Impressions The Hyundai T7s is an update to the T7 with double the RAM and ROM. The other change is that the tablet is now available in blue instead of white.  It comes packed in a box together with an AC adpater, a microUSB cable, a pair of earbuds, a manual and a quick tour booklet. Strangely, the quick tour booklet comes with quite a lot more information than the manual itself. The build quality and design of the tablet is average and nothing to shout about. I would say that the overall quality of slightly above...

Onda V972 Android Tablet Review

Onda V972 Android Tablet Review

The Onda V972 quad-core Allwinner A31 Android tablet with 9.7 inch 2048 x 1536 retina screen is Onda’s version of the iPad clone. The tablet runs on Android instead of iOS but it is obviously “inspired” by the iPad. Android tablets usually have widescreen aspect displays but the V972 has the same 9.7 inch retina 2048 x 1536 display with a 4:3 aspect ratio as the iPad. The display is not the only feature that Onda borrowed from the Apple designers. The entire unit actually looks very much like an iPad including the size right up to the tapered metallic back cover and the placement of the rear camera. From a distance it is actually not easy to tell them apart if it is not for the giveaway missing Apple logo at the back. If I were to stick an Apple logo at the back of the V972, I probably could have fooled a lot of people. Putting the iPad inspired design aside, the Onda V972 does have quite decent hardware specifications. It actually shares a lot of hardware similarities with another iPad clone, the Pipo M6 Android tablet. On paper, the V972 actually looks very good when stacked against the iPad. This is an amazing achievement considering that the tablet costs less than half what the latest iPad costs. But how well does it perform in real world tests? We are about to find out. Buy from AliExpress First Impressions The Onda V972 comes packed in a simple box that again has shades of Apple. However, the insides of the packaging seems rather flimsy as there is minimal padding for the tablet itself. Also in the box, in a compartment under the tablet are an AC charger, a USB cable and a flimsy looking manual. Considering how much the V972 costs compared to an iPad, we can turn a blind eye to the packaging. The V972...

Ainol Novo 7 Crystal II Android Tablet Review

The Ainol brand is quite well known especially for their lower-end Android tablet products. The Ainol Novo 7 Crystal II Android tablet is a sub-$100 tablet that provides quite a bit of bang for the buck. Not everyone requires a big screen, state-of-the-art tablet with all the latest hardware features. For some, all they need is a small and portable device that is primarily used for web browsing, e-mail, reading and posting the latest Facebook posts or Twitter tweet, and maybe a little Plants vs Zombies. There are also those who do not want to bring their high-end tablet along with them when going for a business trip or vacation for fear of losing their precious tablet. What they need instead is a cheap tablet for checking email and social media while traveling. At the same time, if the tablet gets misplaced or stolen, the financial loss is minimal (data is all saved to the cloud). Last but not least, a budget tablet like the Ainol Novo 7 Crystal II is also ideal as your child’s first Android tablet. Install a child friendly user interface that only allows your child to access certain apps and to block purchasing and downloading of apps, and you have a great kid tablet. Since it is cheap, it won’t burn such a big hole in your wallet should it get damaged. If you fit into any of the 3 categories above, the Crystal II can be an ideal Android tablet for you. However, the budget price also means that the tablet cannot meet some of the “minimum” specs that I have listed in my “How to select a tablet” guide on the main page. For example, the screen resolution is only 1024 x 600 although I recommended at least a 1280 x 800 screen. Since the Crystal II only has a 7″ screen, this compromise is acceptable. The quad-core ATM7029 can be a little misleading. The ATM7029 has four ARM Cortex-A5 CPUs compared to the Cortex-A9 on the RK3188. The Cortex-A5 is designed to be a low cost chip with low power requirements. This makes the ATM7029 better than the RK3188 at prolonging battery life but at the expense of processing power. In certain cases, the ATM7029 can even lose out to the dual-core RK3066. However for simple tasks, the ATM7029 is ideal for providing processing power while saving on battery. If you can stretch your budget a bit more, you may also want to consider the Ainol Novo 7 Flame. For a full review of the Ainol Novo 7 Crystal II, please go to our companion site, Androydz.com. How does the Ainol...

Pipo M9 Android Tablet Review

Pipo M9 Android Tablet Review

The Pipo M9 Android tablet is the predecessor to the new Pipo M9pro. The main differences are the lower resolution 10.1 inch display (1280 x 800) instead of the retina (1920 x 1200) display, and 16GB ROM instead of 32GB on the M9pro. The retina display is a very attractive upgrade but it comes with a price and it is not just in dollars. The quad-core RK3188 is a very powerful chip but a lot of extra power is required to push the extra pixels on the retina screen. In many apps, especially graphically intensive ones like 3D games, the RK3188 struggles and this results is jerkiness which renders some apps unusable. This is less of an issue on the Pipo M9. All the 3D games run well on the tablet although I have to admit that the retina screen on the M9pro does make the graphics look more impressive. The extra storage ROM on the M9pro is a minor update in my opinion as users can easily add more storage by using the microSD memory expansion slot. Memory cards are also cheap with 32GB microSD cards going for under $25. The price difference between the M9 and M9pro is significant. Comparing the WiFi only model on AliExpress, there is about a $30-$40 price difference. If you plan to use the tablet for a lot portable gaming, it might be wiser to stick with the Pipo M9 for compatibility purposes and save some money at the same time. However, if you do not do much gaming and do not mind paying a little more for a better screen, the M9pro is a good buy as well. The rest of the specifications and performance of the M9 is quite similar to the M9pro. For a more detailed review of the Pipo M9 tablet, you can check out my full review on Androydz.com or you can also read up my full review on the M9pro before making a decision.
