Review: Pipo M8 Pro Android Tablet
Android tablet PCs from China usually draw their hardware and design inspiration from popular tablets like the Apple iPad, iPad mini, Google Nexus tablets and Samsung tablets. You can almost always tell which popular tablet that the China tablet is “inspired” by. Therefore, it is quite refreshing to come across the Pipo M8 Pro Android tablet. Most of the tablets in Pipo’s current tablet line-up don’t have the obvious clone look but the Pipo M8 Pro look rather different from the rest of its brethren. If I have to pick a popular brand that the Pipo M8 Pro resemble closest to, I would pick Sony. Come to think of it, Sony does come up with rather nice designs for their tablets and I am surprised that it has taken this long for a Sony-like clone to come along. Besides the rather “unique” design, the Pipo M8 Pro also has another distinctive feature. It has a 9.4 inch display with 1280 x 800 resolution. The only other tablet that I have come across that has a similar 9.4 inch display is the Ramos W42. It is obvious that most China tablet manufacturers are cashing in on the popularity of the top-selling iOS and Android tablets. They are targeted at users who are not willing to pay top dollar for the originals and are willing to make compromises. However, the Pipo M8 Pro is rather unique as I found it to be a rather good tablet in its own rights and not because it is a rather good clone. Review: Pipo U8 Android Tablet
The iPad Mini form factor is probably one of the most popular form factors among the Chinese tablet manufacturers. Almost every single manufacturer has their own version of it including Pipo. The Pipo U8 is Pipo’s take on the iPad Mini form factor. I consider Pipo as one of the “branded” China Android tablet PC manufacturers. I have generally been impressed with their line of tablet PCs especially the Pipo M9 Pro and the Pipo M6. Pipo Android tablet PCs do cost more than the other brands but they always do come with a few extras that the competition are lacking. This review of the Pipo U8 will have comparisons with the other iPad Mini clones that I have reviewed so far, specifically the highly impressive Chuwi V88 that scored a full 5 stars from this site. Pipo M9 Android Tablet Review
The Pipo M9 Android tablet is the predecessor to the new Pipo M9pro. The main differences are the lower resolution 10.1 inch display (1280 x 800) instead of the retina (1920 x 1200) display, and 16GB ROM instead of 32GB on the M9pro. The retina display is a very attractive upgrade but it comes with a price and it is not just in dollars. The quad-core RK3188 is a very powerful chip but a lot of extra power is required to push the extra pixels on the retina screen. In many apps, especially graphically intensive ones like 3D games, the RK3188 struggles and this results is jerkiness which renders some apps unusable. This is less of an issue on the Pipo M9. All the 3D games run well on the tablet although I have to admit that the retina screen on the M9pro does make the graphics look more impressive. The extra storage ROM on the M9pro is a minor update in my opinion as users can easily add more storage by using the microSD memory expansion slot. Memory cards are also cheap with 32GB microSD cards going for under $25. The price difference between the M9 and M9pro is significant. Comparing the WiFi only model on AliExpress, there is about a $30-$40 price difference. If you plan to use the tablet for a lot portable gaming, it might be wiser to stick with the Pipo M9 for compatibility purposes and save some money at the same time. However, if you do not do much gaming and do not mind paying a little more for a better screen, the M9pro is a good buy as well. Pipo M7pro Android Tablet Review
This is a hands-on review of the Pipo M7 pro, a slightly smaller version of the Pipo M9 pro. The Pipo M7 pro has a smaller 8.9 inch screen compared to the 10.1 inch screen on the M9 pro. In addition, the M7pro uses a PLS (Plane to Line Switching) panel display while the M9pro has an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel. Both panel technologies are similar with high brightness and wide viewing angle. However, PLS technology is more energy efficient compared to IPS. Other than this difference, all the other specifications for both devices are more or less the same. Therefore, on this review, I will just make note of the differences between the 2 devices plus comparisons with the Nexus 7 which has a similar price range. Pipo M6 Android Tablet Review
The Pipo M6 Android tablet is marketed as a cheaper alternative to the Apple iPad. It has a 9.7″ screen with a 2048 x 1536 pixel retina resolution and from the front it even looks like an iPad. If you are interested in the iPad because of the gorgeous retina display, note that the Pipo M6 has an identical display. Of course, the iPad runs on a totally different operating system but if you are looking for a similarly sized device with the same display as the iPad but at a fraction of the price, the Pipo M6 is a great candidate. Because of the different operating systems, it is difficult to make an apple-to-apple (pun not intended) comparison based on the hardware specs alone. The one comparison that would be of interest to most people would of course be the price. The cheapest iPad model with just WiFi and 16 GB of memory sells for $500. The WiFi version of the Pipo M6 sells for around $260. The 3G iPad with 16 GB ROM sells for $629 while the 3G Pipo M6 goes for $300.
